MDigger Auto Update - How to?

    Dear mDigger Developers,

Firstly, let me say Thank You for creating this wonderful application. I am using mDigger for few weeks and it is becoming my primary RSS reader - I really enjoy it.

The only issue is: I do not see any option for Auto Updates. My assumption is in next releaseses this will be implemented.

For now, I would like kindly to ask you for a solution! Is it possible to provide a command line for starting "Refresh Package..." with third party applications. I guess it should be something like << "\\Program Files\mDigger Reader for Pocket PC\Mobshell.exe" Refresh >>

This will be very helpful - it can give me possibility to "force" mDigger auto update during night hours, and be able to have the news "on the coffee table" immediately after I wake up

    Thank you

PS. I use WM6 on Hermes

    Hello!

Thank you for your comments. I have a question about overnight sync. Which connection is the best for sync? Desktop? Wi-Fi? Broadband (GSM, CDMA)?

    Best regards,
    Max

    Hi Max,

Thank you for your quick reply. In my particular case I am using WiFi for overnight sync. I am using PhW profiles to get my weather updated (SBSH Weather & HTC Home weather), as well a small utility (rk-OSR) for all my e-mail accounts. For SBSH Weather I use the command line in PhW profiles - thats the reason I asked for a command line tip :-)

The device is configured in a way that it becomes very active between 6:00h - 6.15h - special purpose profiles are establising WiFi and start calling programs for syncing - rk-OSR is on its own. After 6.30h I am able to have my coffee and start reading e-mails etc.

Hope to be able to get mDigger synced overnight soon :-)

    Best regards

    Hello Martin,

I have good news for you: You can download RC of new version mDigger Reader. This version supported unattended refresh (sync). Using this functionality is very simple. You need to add key "-sync" at command line before run mdigger client (mobshell.exe). I will be happy if you can provide me reports at any problems.

    Download links:

Re: MDigger Auto Update - How to?

    Hi Max,

Hope you are well. Firstly, let me thank you for the links.

    At present auto-update works fine!

I have created a shortcut with "-sync" key and placed it in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ - named it mDigger Update
This gives me the convenience to run only mDigger Update manually (button on the launcher), as well to use a PhW profile for auto update.

    Manual update works just well.

Auto update is a bit tricky: Using single PhW profile to acrivate WiFi and mDigger Update do not works. WiFi needs 10-20s to establishe connection, but at the time mDigger already pop-ups a message connection not found
    - in general that should be quite normal, but updating SBSH Weather I am using a single profile activating WiFi and Weather Update. The solution is simple - ProfileOne activates WiFi, and a minute later ProfileTwo activates mDigger Update: that works well!

Device in active mode: no problems
Device in sleeping mode: no problems

There was only one side issue I noticed - during the update (it doesnt matter manual, auto or from mDigger menu) connected the device to laptop via IR, and immediately got message from mDigger for server connection error. In case the IR connection is established first, and then start mDigger update (WiFi is on) no problems at all, including killing IR connection later.

I will let mDigger Update start running on its own from tonight and in case notice any problems will let you know

    Best Regards
    Marttin

PS. Tests was done on Softbank X01HT (Herm 200) device, WM6 Professional  / CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build: 18125.0.4.2)

Re: MDigger Auto Update - How to?

    Hi,
Thanks for this great program, first off.  I would like mDigger to refresh its self while connected by usb to my computer.  Could you explain how to add the sync line to the shortcut, basically how the entire shortcut line should read with -sync in it.  Will it then refresh itself continually or on a schedule while connected?

    Thanks Pete

    Hi Pete,

Not sure about possibility mDigger to detect USB.

The shortcut line should look like that:
    <<"\Program Files\mDigger Reader for Pocket PC\Mobshell.exe" -sync>>

It will not sync automaticaly on its own - you should use some scheduling application (like PhW), which must call the link containing the above shortcut at scheduled time.

The Update will use available (open) at the time internet connection. In case your PPC is not connected to Internet via PC (USB), or the WiFi connection is not open, it is very possible establishement of GPRS connection to be "forced" - in this case it may cause extra charges from your service provider.

    Hope the above helps

    Cheers
