    Developing / publishing

I read the section on the main mDigger.net site re developers and publishers .. but I am not really clear on the following...

As a .Net developer, can I create new channels (for everyone to consume) for sites that I want added to the catalog? Let's say I want a lifehack.org (which I am not affiliated with). Sure I could submit a request on your community server for a new channel, but can I use your framework and do it myself  .... either just for my own use or preferably to share with all users?

I cannot post in the developer forum .. I get a permission denied message. Is that by design?

    Thanks

    Re: Developing / publishing

Hello etnoah and thanks for your post,

Yes, as a developer you can create channels for all mDigger Service users to use and have them added to the catalog, including channels for such sites as www.lifehack.org. And yes, you can use our framework to do it yourself.

In order to develop channels you must understand the fundamentals of how the mDigger Service works (we will provide you with info on this), possess some knowledge of creating XLS templates and know how to form XPath queries, as well as be able to work with XML and XHTML.

The developer forum will officially be "opened" at the end of next week (March 9th), at which point you can then post. At that time the developer tools for building channels for the service will also be available. Sorry for the inconvenience for now...

I will post back here to let you know when everything is ready and/or please feel free to email me (ginak@quartamobile.com) with your contact info if you'd prefer that I contact you via email.

Thanks for your interest, and we hope you will enjoy the service.

Thanks for the info. I will hang out and wait for you guys to post the documentation (or whatever you post) on the "fundamentals of the mDigger service" etc ... when you are ready. The xls, xpath etc I have covered off. This should be fun.

    Re: Developing / publishing

    Hello Noah:

Just wanted to let you know that we will post  the information for developers just a few days late. Sorry for the delay! Everything should now be ready by Wednesday.

What it will basically be is a download, called mDigger Channel Builder, for developing channels, user instructions and a step-by-step guide with examples.

    Re: Developing / publishing

    Hi Noah,

You can now post into the developer forum. It is ready. Also, mDigger Channel Builder and related documentation are available for download on our new developer site at: http://developer.mdigger.net . The site will ask you for a login and password. Just use the same user ID and password as for mDigger service and you are set. Now you can start making your own channels!

Thank you for your patience and please feel free to contact me or posit in our forum should you have any questions/complaints/suggestions, etc.

    Regards,

    Gina
